Against the imperialist intervention in Syria – Anti-war and anti-imperialist struggle

Over the last few days, the whole world has been following with bated breath the escalation of the imperialist aggression by the West forces of USA, France and Britain, having the support of NATO and EU, which have launched over a hundred missiles against Syria, just after the Zionist’s war machine military strike. The attempt to justify their brutal colonialist policy, ( as the assault of USA in Syria in April 2017) , using the argument of the alleged use of chemical weapons by the Syrian regime – the moment when it is regaining control over the jihadis, in most of the country’s districts –can only be characterized as ridiculous and unfounded. Let alone if we recall the war propaganda of the West in 2003, about the Saddam’s possession of weapons of mass distruction, in order to justify the imperialist intervention in Iraq. In fact, the assault was hurried before even the OPCW conducted a search for chemical weapons.
The same US-led imperialist powers bombed Yugoslavia and turned Afghanistan and Iraq into“failed states”, wiping out entire populations. Those powers are responsible for the contemporary chaos in Libya, which has now become a slave trade hub for refugees and other victims of imperialism. They are those who sponsored neo-nazis in Ukraine and now support its neoliberal and neonazi government. They are the only real terrorists on earth who, along with the fascist regime of Turkey and the Gulf monarchies, did not hesitate to reinforce ISIS and all kinds of jihadists and the so-called “Syrian opposition” (FSA) to overthrow the Syrian government , in order to ensure their dominance over the Middle East, following the instability they themselves caused. Those powers, while claiming to promote democracy and human rights, do not hesitate to cooperate with the most reactionary and authoritarian regimes (Saudi Arabia, Qatar) and the “rogue-state” of Israel, are responsible for the greatest humanitarian crisis of our time in Yemen.
The escalation of the Euro-Atlantic intervention against the Syrian people, who already mourns 500.000 dead and millions of refugees, comes at a critical historical time. The protracted structural crisis of the capitalist system has not been overcome, economic growth rates are inadequate, labor-capitalist contradictions are constantly increasing at the international level, and the threat of war appears as the next step in the recovery of capitalist profitability and imperialistic looting.
The imperialist US-NATO-EU interventions are aimed at securing their hegemony in the Middle East, as the military rise of the nuclear superpower of Russia threatens their interests. The strategic conflict between the US and its allies with Russia, as confirmed by the new Strategic Doctrine of Trump targeting Russia and China as the main competitors of the US, the sanctions against Russia and its encirclement by NATO troops, the increase of NATO military presence in Europe, raises the risk of a generalized war in the Middle East in general and Syria in particular. In a region trubled by long term conflicts between powerful regional forces (Israel, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Turkey), unresolved historical issues ( Kurdistan, Palaistine) and constantly shifting alliances, NATO is concentrating its military forces to counter other emerging capitalist powers (Russia, China), thus creating the circumstances of a new round of war.
At the same time, the US is in a direct confrontation and trade war with China (the world’s second economy), threatens North Korea with nuclear havoc and destabilizes the Balkans reaffirming its dominance over the region. With the ruling classes sponsoring nationalism, fascism is being ressurected, while the intra-imperialist contradictions between US -Germany and UK-EU after the Brexit, draw divisions in the Euro-Atlantic’s front unity.Meanwhile, the contradictions between regional actors and the conflict of interests between multinational giants for the explotation of the energy fields pose the risk of a distructive military confrontation.
Greece, as a NATO and EU member, sits in the most inflamable region of the planet and anything but “a pillar of stability” could be characterized, as US ambassador in Greece said. In the light of neverending memorandums of imperialist guardianship, unemployment, insecurity and poverty, the greek state continues to contribute the highest percentage of its GDP (second only to the USA) to NATO needs. While the memorandums caused the biggest post-war redistribution of wealth from the lower to the ruling classes, the whole country has been transformed into a launching base of imperialist interventions (ships and airplanes that bombed Syria departed from NATO’s Souda base, in Crete). The government of SYRIZA-ANEL, is also acountable for the dramatic situation in Syria, despite its hypocritical compassion towards the people of Syria. As society’s stantards of life dramatically deteriorate, war in Aegean is becoming more and more possible due to the opportunism of the local comprador bourgeois class and the emerging role of Turkey as a regional power seeks to consolidate an independent policy.
On the one hand, the Greek state under the government of SYRIZA-ANEL, participates in the reactionary axis of Greece-Cyprus-Egypt-Israel, forming an alliance with the dictatorship of general Sisi, and cooperates in a defensive and military level with the terrorist state of Israel, which is responsible for the suffering of the palaistinian people. On the other hand, the fascist regime of Erdogan, under a parliamentary guise, resumes its genocidal policy against the heroic kurdish people, invades in Syria, violates democratic rights and liberties and sends the historical turkish Revolutionary Left to the firing squad.
In the given historical context, where humanity’s very existence is being threatened by an all-out war, it is the revolutionary forces duty to prevent a new bloodbath of the peoples. People have nothing to gain from imperialist wars and the opportunism of the bourgeoisie. Let us form a popular, militant, anti-war and internationalist movement in order to halt the imperialist war machine. We should organize the anti-imperialist struggle of the peoples to sabotage the local dependent oligarchies and governments, which willingly support the imperialist crimes. The time is ripe for an anti-war uprising of the youth and the workers to overthrow the most dangerous imperialist policy of USA, NATO and EU, for we will not become canon fodder for their profits. For only in that way can the peoples defend peace and gain back their independence, opening the way to the defeat of imperialism, and social emancipation.

CLASS COUNTERATTACK (Anarchists and Communists group)

Farewell Comrade and Friend Christos

They happened to be a fine crop…

In the morning of March the 11th 2018, we lost unexpectedly our anarchist comrade and founding member of our political group, Christos Politis. His death is overwhelming, but it won’t paralyze us, it won’t bend us. Our ranks will grow and we will collectively walk the uphill that Christos has left behind…

Christos passed away unfairly. Like thousands of other people in this galley we all live in. Here, where the ambulances take more than an hour to arrive. Here, where our lives, the lives of the poor and the workers, the unemployed and the damned, the true militants and the brave like Christos, are constantly targeted and under probation.

Christos was as well, like all of us, a true born of his generation, of this dump where we grew up and live, of its contrasts, its contradictions, its constant pressure, of bad timing… No one and nothing will spill the Honor and Memory of our Comrade. We will make sure of it, as we are certain will do the hundreds, the literally thousands of comrades, men and women, who met him and walked alongside the last 25 years, at least at some part of the path, in his long, incessant and multiform political action.

Our Comrade joined the streets of Struggle at a very early age, in the mid 90’s and since then, and until two days ago when his big heart stopped beating, he never ceased – not for a moment – struggling dynamically, with determination and courage, from every front, constantly and with consequence. In the demonstrations after the assassination of Christoforos Marinos in 1996, in the barricades outside the exam centers in ’98, in the antiwar demonstrations in ’99. In the demonstrations against the EU leaders summit in Thessaloniki in 2003, in the student’s struggle in 2006-07, in the insurrection of December 2008, in the solidarity to political and struggling prisoners, in the international-antifascist action, in the solidarity to squats, in solidarity structures, in the collective kitchens for refugees and immigrants, in the struggles against state repression, mafias and social cannibalism, in Exarchia and everywhere. Incessantly all these years he lived and fought with a smile on his face, with integrity and dignity. Human, a modest and committed Fighter. Through the collective political procedures of the anarchist-antiauthoritarian scene and the wider antagonistic movement, he lived and fought at the frontlines, Christos of the Struggle and Fight; Christos of counterattack, of collective and self-defense; Christos of organization and commitment; Christos of assemblies and initiatives; Christos of counter-information and postings; Christos of publications and presentations; Christos of political suggestions and analysis; Christos in every Struggle front of those decades. 8 years ago, in the winter of 2010 – right after the country was already in memorandum winter – our Comrade felt on his skin the state repression, the police-justice fury, the relentlessness οf media parrots and mainstream headhunters. From the closed prison of Grevena, more than 400 km away from Athens, he wrote:

[…] Because we fought everywhere, with our small or bigger forces, where nothing seemed certain and when the social entropy was giving a new meaning to our life and strength to our struggles. […] The made-up and guided persecutions, based on the scenarios and obsessions of the anti-terrorist department, look like cluster bombs. They target somewhere only to strike a long range around it, to destroy a wider area. This persecution doesn’t concern me exclusively. This persecution aims at scaring everyone. In order to be careful who we talk to. With whom we do postering. With whom we print publications. With whom we walk side by side in the demos. With whom we exchange opinions during events. And certainly, where we go to. To fill us in our everyday life with doubt and fear. The servants of Troika offer us generously the eternal “alibi” of obedience, of temporary security and fake safety of submission. Because, who will doubt, without being laughed at completely, that if we were content with nothing, if we were anarchists only until high school, if we were “relieved” after the signing of the memorandum, if he hated immigrants, if we were frustrated with the black block, if we were afraid of “terrorists”, nor I nor many others who resist would have experienced the repression consequences.

But the struggle won’t retreat. The regime and its various officials won’t be able to feel happiness or relief. We resist side by side with the anarchist prisoners, the prisoners in struggle. Until their liberation. We contribute constantly to bringing together – theoretically and organizationally – our class and developing the necessary strategic plan in order to achieve victory.

Let’s stand still. And let’s take the next step. For the social/class counter-attack. Aiming at storming heaven.

PS: As one good friend once said to me: «Patience. Strength. Faith to the Cause. We are right. The end.” Those words will be my guide in those truly difficult moments.

Christos, this will be our guide as well…Farewell Comrade and Friend. We shall never forget you.

The Struggle goes on. The way you knew and wanted it to be.

Μήνυμα του διοικητή Νemo στη Μνήμη του Συντρόφου μας Χρήστου Πολίτη / Statement from commander Nemo in memory of our comrade Christos Politis

War is a very dangerous place, not only because there is fighting, but also because you live in a very extreme context. Frequently happen that someone die or be wounded not in combat, but just in accidents.
Obviously these comrades are heroes too, because they gave an extraordinary effort for the cause. An hero is not necessary someone who dies in a glorious way, an hero is someone who live in an heroic way. Heroism is in the daily actions. No one more than a militant  is a true hero: someone who never stop fight. Someone who is not scared. Someone who is ready for everything.
I think that all of the comrades who fight for the same goal are similar part of the same thing, there is no differences between comrades. Wars have several fronts, in each one there is different kinds of combat. Our struggle is a perfect demonstration of it: all together we fight to change this world. Comrades in the front line and comrades who stay in the back lines are linked very strongly. They do the same, just use different tools.
This is why I say that comrade Christos is one of us, because we fought the same war. We was far in the space, but moving together.
Now we have to going on fighting for our goals and for the memory of our comrades. We must never give rest to the enemies. All of our fallen comrades will live forever in our struggles, all of them.

The manifestation debate with Nemo (commander of the international group Interunit who fought in Eastern Ukraine against the nazi/neoliberal regime of Kiev) that had been scheduled for tomorrow Thursday 22/3 will take place at the end of April.

Cancellation of Krav maga seminar on January 13

On Saturday, January 13, a krav maga seminar was scheduled at the Olympic Athletic Center of Athens (OAKA) with the participation of Israeli army trainers. As Initiative of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, we called for a gathering and march to OAKA ( to make it clear to the murderers and torturers of the Palestinians that they are undesirable in our country and that they will always find us against them.

A few days after the announcement of our call, the krav maga federation announced the cancellation of the seminar due to the “call from the Initiative of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, in favor of the struggling Palestinian people.”

The cancellation of the seminar is part of a wider plan of actions of solidarity with the Palestinian people. It is a victory of the movement of solidarity with the Palestinian people and it urges us to continue the mobilizations with even greater determination.

We call everybody in the march to the American embassy next Saturday, January 20, Syntagma square at 18:00.

Announcement of “Class Counterattack” for the events of the Polytechnic School (15-17/11/2017)

It was a big surprise for us to read at indymedia that this year the Polytechnic School (PS) was “occupied” during its three-day “celebration”. Without any further information, some comrades went there to get informed about the characteristics and the reasons of this action. At the gate of Stournari we became witnesses of a grotesque picture where about 15 people, who have no relationship with the social movement and its structures, were looking aggressively at comrades, asking them if they were cops (!), waving knives and molotofs provocatively at them, behind a locked door, of course.

From the first moment it was obvious that the PS was occupied by forces that live off the movement. This action was not product of an open process of struggle with collective terms that would end up to a common political context. It was not an open to the movement initiative of collectives and groups that may had a different approach for the PS and its three-day “celebration”. It wasn’ t even an occupation that took place some other time of the year. This “occupation” was a move with clearly aggressive characteristics towards the movement and the people of the struggle, an authoritarian action of imposition against anyone that didn’t fit the taste and the criteria of the “squatters”. A coup d’ etat that if it stayed unanswered, it would have served the dark intentions and the antisocial plans of a small group of people that claim to be the committee of the insurrection.

The heritage of such a tragedy would be devastating firstly for the anarchist movement, because it would undermine and have toxic effects upon the political principles and values of its establishment and construction. It would be a heritage that would fall as a burden upon the movement contributing to its further deconstruction regarding the motive and the number of the people. It would contribute to the vanity and the sentiment of defeat. It would be a big sign of the decadence of the self-organizing, the solidarity, the equality and the libertarian culture. It would be a coup heritage for the people of the struggle. An action of taint against the memory of November’s 1973 uprising and its dead but also an act against the insurrection events, social and massive, such as the occupation of the PS in 1995. The establishment of the open characteristics of an occupation with terms of face control, the Trojan horse of antisocial and anti-movement behaviour with social and class slogans, the prohibition of political events, assemblies and distribution of counter-informing material or the blackmailing for these to be done under the approval of the “squatters” and from the political hegemony of the “occupation” and the dark characteristics that gave itself. The justification of using upgraded means against comrades, the loss of the real meaning of the revolutionary internationalism and its replacement by riot-tourism and, finally, the fact that some people in the name of anarchy forbid people, children, students, the youth and whoever fought for a better world to pay tribute to our dead, is the highest insult.

On 15/11, the first day of the “occupation” there was an assembly called at building “Gkini” with the signature “Occupation of the PS”. There went comrades from the anarchist movement and argued against the continuation of this action. After their interventions that were to the point and the withdrawal of the younger comrades mostly, some not only they weren’t convinced but also they reached the point to threaten verbally comrades, telling them that they will make use of upgraded means against them. The same night, the “occupation”, clearly weakened, numbered only 25 people, who were mostly refugees and riot-tourists, a subject of “struggle” with common characteristic the ignorance of November’s uprising and the characteristics of the movement in Greece, that kept dancing in the rhythm of psy trance at the gates of Stournari.

The same night, after “Class Counterattack” was informed of the continuation of the “occupation” and since no other initiative was taken so as the movement would rightfully be on its natural environment, we published a text calling to a gathering the next day (16/11/2017) on Eksarheia square at 15:00 o’clock so that the movement would come together and manage to be in the PS and also calling for an assembly at 16:00 inside PS. At 16:00 of the same day groups of the radical Left were calling to a gathering for the same purpose on Kaniggos square.

The next day at 15:00, almost 300 comrades responded to “Class Counterattack’s” call. At 15:45 we marched, independently from the forces of the radical Left, without any aggressive intentions with only weapons our numbers and our right towards the gate of Stournari entering the PS and coexisting with the “squatters” without any conflicts.

The historical and bloodstained by struggles building of the PS was opened and claimed the right of its existence and political presence there in the days of November. Unfortunately, it seems that for some the rights of the working class that were won by struggles and sacrifices and are now on the gunpoint of bosses’ terrorism are not rights gained by the movement and the struggling society. Gains that a movement owes to protect and fight for, by all means, so as to expand within a suffocating capitalist environment. On the contrary, is clear the provocative and undermining role of some forces that form their strategy not on the concept of “creating new gains” and “the protection of our acquired rights” but adjusting it with terms of living off rights that came from past and present struggles, contributing this way to the loss of their meaning.

At the open assembly that took place, inside the open from the movement PS, more than 300 people that until some hours ago couldn’t approach the place attended it. Many interesting opinions were heard from comrades with many different starts and political orientations, but with common ground the opposition to anti-movement actions. During the entering of the forces of the radical Left in the PS, at about 17:00 o’clock, the remaining “squatters” directed to them calling them “whores” and warning them that in the night they would “get stabbed”.

As for us, we think that it goes without saying that the arguing with the radical Left must be political or else must not exist. Because the materials that we build our political ground and our fighting culture today determine the possibility of creating a truly antiauthoritarian future.

Although there is a distance between us and parts of the radical Left in a moral and strategical level and a political competition to the way we fight for the social revolution, this cannot in any case hooligan-like behaviours. Because, as much as the choice of participating through the elections in the parliament and the following convictions of the armed struggle and the fighting resistance can only be obstacles to the revolutionary way, our own inclusion to hooliganism can also be an obstacle to the revolutionary path.

To the public call of “Class Counterattack” the next day at 06:00 in the morning to the PS around 30 comrades responded, who threw out the former governmental youth from the annual deposit of flowers and managed to keep away government members and politicians who only abuse the meaning of the uprising.

Finally, we would like to form some rhetorical -for the time being- questions. Since when the dismantling of an authoritarian impose is not a deeply antiauthoritarian practice and is included as a part of a sustaining trouble? Did the repression fall upon the movement and the struggling society that were recipients of authoritarian behaviours and prohibitions or upon the twenty people who banned the rest? If the entering of the movement to its natural environment is considered an authoritarian behaviour then how can we call its blocking from it? If a member of “Class Counterattack” waved a knife at a “squatter” or told him that he would use “upgraded means” against him some would already speak of stalin-like practices inside the anarchist movement and would demand our isolation. Why aren’ t they speaking now? And last and most crucial: which is the answer that the movement must give to this kind of situations? As for us; silence remains guilt.

PS. The slander against those that fight and especially the ones that pose questions to the movement goes on for a long time. We won’t reproduce here this kind of potty talk. We were informed through indymedia that in the open gathering among the 300 comrades there were two people from the “security team” and possibly some others that have nothing to do with our vision and are on the opposite side of us. But the fact that some are telling on us, one of the few groups that takes part with real cost in struggles against bouncers, drug dealers and any kind of gang that develops and works against the movement demands nerve and much empathy. Especially when our accusators never opposed to them and just kept a safe distance. The ones that know us know…
